Monster Energy Drink's Ivan Tedesco On Top Of 125 Western Region Class

Defending supercross 125 West Champ takes over sole
possession of points lead with come-from-behind win at Anaheim's Angel Stadium
CARLSBAD, Calif., (Jan. 24, 2005) Team Monster/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki's Ivan
Tedesco scored a spectacular come-from-behind win on Saturday at Round Two of
the 2005 THQ/AMA Supercross Series at Anaheim's Angel Stadium.
The New Mexico native and Kawasaki KX250F-mounted Tedesco took over sole
possession of the 125 class Western Region points lead, putting a margin of
seven points between himself and second place Ryan Sipes (60-53).
"It's definitely good to put the Monster/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki team in the
lead", said Tedesco, who was tied for the points lead with Sipes heading
into the race. "Again this week, I didn't get the greatest start. Don't
know why, Pro Circuit gives me the fastest bike out there. But everybody was
making mistakes, I just made mine at the start. So during the race I was able
to capitalize off other riders' mistakes and just kept moving up towards the
front of the pack."
The highlight of the evening's racing (both classes) was Tedesco pursuing,
catching, setting up and passing Team Honda's Andrew Short for the lead and
eventual win.
"We (Tedesco and Short) were both hitting this same section all
night" , said Tedesco. As I moved through the pack and got closer, I could
see (Short) was going to the outside, and I was following his line. I knew if I
caught up, I could get to the inside of that same section and pass him.
Finally, late in the race I was able to do that, make it stick and took her
home from there.
The win was Tedesco's first of the year.
Tedesco's Monster/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki teammate Paul Carpenter was again one of
the faster racers in practice (5th overall), got out of his heat race with no
problem to make the main event, but ran into some difficulties and was forced
to retire from the race.
