It’s Tedesco Again! Monster Energy Drink-Supercross Flyer Puts On Amazing Show in San Francisco

2/3/2005

Defending supercross 125 West Champ survives a first lap pile up, then captures the full attention of the SBC Ballpark crowd in racing back to podium finish!

CARLSBAD, Calif., (Feb. 2, 2005) - Team Monster Energy Drink/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki's Ivan Tedesco was the talk of the 125cc class last Saturday, even though he didn’t win.

For the second-straight week, the popular rider from New Mexico was forced to rally from an early deficit – this time getting taken out by friendly rival Nathan Ramsey – and having to race back from 16th place to make the 125 class main event podium at Round Four of the 2005 THQ/AMA Supercross Series at San Francisco’s SBC Park.

“It’s not that I’m getting used to it, but it’s kind of fun coming through the field like that,” said Tedesco. “You know you’re on an unreal bike (Pro Circuit-tuned Kawasaki KX250F) when you can come from the back-of-the-pack to make the podium.

“I just use a bit of riding ability and flat out pin it. The bike does the rest.”

The modest champion actually almost pulled the holeshot, battling Danny Smith at the start. Smith and Tedesco seemed to be clear of the field when Ramsey charged and took himself and Tedesco out on the third turn.

“Yeah, I was kind of surprised at Nathan’s move,” said Tedesco. “I was able to hold onto the bars and keep the bike going. He (Ramsey) ended up taking himself out of the race.” (Note: Ramsey’s bike wouldn’t start following the wreck and he DNF’d.)

Tedesco got to the 125 main by winning his qualifier, including pulling the holeshot. After his get together with Ramsey, Tedesco reeled in the entire field, except for race leaders Billy Laninovich (his first win) and Andrew Short.

“Unfortunately, those guys had too big a lead for me to catch them,” said Tedesco. “I was able to get through the pack, but had to settle for third.”

Tedesco now has a commanding 13-point lead over Ryan Sipes (whom he was tied with heading into Round Four) for the overall 125 Western Region points lead.

Paul Carpenter, Tedesco’s teammate on the Monster Energy Drink/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki team, finished 16th overall in the 125 main event. Carpenter missed the main in his qualifier, finishing tenth, then rallied for a second place finish in the LCQ to make the main. Carpenter did show signs of top ten speed (8th fastest lap time in the main), but a couple mistakes had him settling for 16th.

Team Monster Energy Drink/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki is back in Anaheim this weekend for what looks to be yet another capacity crowd at Angel Stadium.
