Monster Energy Drink’s Ivan Tedesco Pours It On Again! New Mexico Flyer Wins Second Race Of Season

Defending Supercross 125 West Champ captures third &
final SX chapter at Anaheim’s Angel Stadium – extends lead in 125 West
class to comfortable margin
CARLSBAD, Calif., (Feb. 7, 2005) – Still
carrying the momentum of one of the more impressive come-from-behind rides in
recent 125 racing history, Team Monster Energy Drink/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki's
Ivan Tedesco drove home a point last weekend at Anaheim’s Angel Stadium that
was to be heard ‘round the motocross racing world.
Tedesco, aboard the Kawasaki KX250F, showed just how bad he wants to return the
Western Region’s 125 No. 1 plate back to Mitch Payton and the Pro Circuit camp,
scoring a decisive 125 main event win in Saturday’s race at Anaheim.
“I wanted this one bad,” said Tedesco. “We were at a point where I could break
away from the rest of the pack with a win tonight, and that’s just what we were
able to deliver. I had an excellent week of practice and knew I was riding
great coming into the last Anaheim round. I had a bunch of friends and family
here, my team was behind me and I felt strongly there was no way we were going
to come up with anything less than a win.”
Tedesco now has a 29-point lead (105-76) over second place Danny Smith in the
125 Western Region title chase with three races remaining. Coincidently, Smith
was the last racer Tedesco looked over his shoulder at before blasting off to
the lead – and eventual win – in Saturday’s race.
“I got out to a better start this week for sure,” said Tedesco, who also pulled
a better start in his heat race and parlayed that into a win as well. “Danny
(Smith) got the holeshot, but there was three other guys – (Billy) Laninovich,
Nathan (Ramsey) and myself – right there in the hunt. I was able to make a move
early, get out and apply some of the things we’d worked on during the week to
build a pretty good lead.”
Tedesco ran his lead up to as much as six seconds by Lap 11, then wound up
winning by a comfortable three seconds.
Monster Energy Drink/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki’s Paul Carpenter wound up in 17th/smaller>
place overall.
Two Monster Energy Drink/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki team racers (Matt Walker and
Grant Langston) begin their quest for the THQ/AMA Supercross Series 125
Eastern Region title this weekend at Indianapolis' RCA Dome. Tedesco and
Carpenter return to Western Region 125 action the following week (Feb. 19th/smaller>)
when Western Region action returns to San Diego’s Qualcomm Stadium.
